AGRA Kaduna Consortium project distributes water pumps to empower dry season tomatoes farmers.
The AGRA Kaduna Consortium project distributed 5 sets of water pumps and accessories to selected farmers in the state to improve productivity and increase resilience for smallholder farmers. This initiative aims to empower farmers, boost their productivity and yield, increase resilience and efficiency, and provide opportunities for additional income generation.
Through this project, around 200 cooperative members are expected to benefit and become better prepared for business opportunities in rental services of water pumps within their communities. The water pumps are projected to be used for 36 hours a week, with a 12:24 hours operation model adopted for the farms and rental services for the next three months of the remaining dry season tomatoes production.
This effort is expected to have a positive impact on the production and output of about 600 farmers in the dry season farming communities across the three LGAs of Kudan, Zaria and Sabongari. The event, which was conducted in NAERLS supported by the Kaduna state AGRA Project Office, also equipped participants with the skills of water pumps calibration, maintenance, and operation and management demonstrations.
