𝐀𝐆𝐑𝐀 𝐊𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐲: 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
AGRA Kaduna Consortium Project Led by the NAERLS organized a Rice Green Field Day at Bizara Community, Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State on the 6th of July 2024. The Green Field Day event is part of the regular activities conducted by the AGRA/NAERLS CBA project in promoting the adoption of good agricultural practices and sustainability among people living with disabilities (smallholder farmers) in Kaduna State.
The event began with an introduction of guests and stakeholders, among the dignitaries present at this occasion are the NAERLS Executive Director, represented by Dr. S. A. Makama, and the Chairman of Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, represented by Alhaji Ibrahim. The AGRA Kaduna Consortium Project Program Officer, Dr Esther Ibrahim, the AGRA/NAERLS Project PI Prof. C. K. Daudu, AGRA Kaduna State Programme Officer, Community leaders, Chairman of the people with disability Mal. Yahaya Lawal, Hope for the Blind Wusasa, Representative of the Premier Seed Co. Mr Stephen Thomas, the coordinator of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities Zaria Chapter Mr. Musa KadPoly.
The green field day aimed to specifically educate farmers on System of Rice Intensification (SRI);
Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for rice, stress the importance of using quality agricultural inputs, such as improved seed varieties, fertilizers, and agrochemicals; Facilitate interactions between farmers and stakeholders across the agricultural value chain, encourage inclusivity of vulnerable individuals in Agricultural Production and Society as a whole.
The event took place at the mother demo plot of the dry season CBA Habiba Tahir, a member of the Takowa Ability in Disability Group. The variety of rice planted was FARO 59 sourced from Premier Seed Company. The group expressed their gratitude for the belief in their ability, despite their disabilities by the AGRA Kaduna Consortium Project Led by the NAERLS.
On the other hand, the AGRA Kaduna State PO, Dr Esther Ibrahim, expressed her delightfulness for the efforts made by the disabled groups (men, women and youths) on Habiba Tahir’s rice demo plots in Bizara Community as it is worthy of emulation.
