Advancing Soil Health Advisory Services Through Digital Innovation
A major highlight of the recently concluded C4SEAS Agricultural Extension Agents (AEA) Training Workshop was the practical exposure of participants to cutting-edge digital soil health advisory tools.
Participants received hands-on training on:
i. iSDA Virtual Agronomist
ii. Interactive Soil Health Advisory Map
iii. OFRA Fertilizer Optimization Tool
iv. Fertilizer Decision Trees
v. Field Measurement Applications
These practical sessions equipped extension professionals with evidence-based tools for delivering site-specific recommendations and improving advisory services to farmers.
The workshop also featured the demonstration of the C4SEAS–SAA–ABU Interactive Soil Nutrient and Management Advisory Map, a digital decision-support platform designed to strengthen soil health recommendations and extension delivery across Nigeria's savanna agroecological zones.
An encouraging outcome of the workshop was the commitment by Zaria Fertilizer to support the airing of radio programmes on soil health management and sustainable fertilizer use. This initiative will extend key soil health messages beyond workshop participants to thousands of farmers, strengthening last-mile advisory delivery and promoting wider adoption of improved soil management practices.
The workshop concluded with the presentation of certificates and a commitment by participants to conduct step-down trainings within their organizations and communities, ensuring wider dissemination of soil health knowledge and innovations across Nigeria.
Together, through partnerships, digital innovation, and strengthened human capacity, we are building a stronger foundation for sustainable agricultural transformation and healthy soils.
