*AGRA NAERLS Green Field Day: Enhancing Farmer Productivity through Good Agricultural Practices and Climate Resilience*

The AGRA Kaduna Consortium, led by NAERLS, hosted a successful Green Field Day on September 17, 2024, in Kagadama Community, Kauru LGA, Kaduna State, featuring the commissioning of a new screen house for climate-smart vegetable production. The event aimed to educate farmers on improved seeds and good agricultural practices (GAP), while showcasing innovative, climate-resilient agricultural methods.

Key highlights included remarks and presentations from notable guests and experts, discussions on project goals, and a tour of the screen house and demonstration fields. Participants engaged with Community-Based Advisors (CBAs) to learn about various practices, such as sole soybean cultivation, strip cropping, zero tillage maize, sole cowpea, and the System of Rice Intensification (SRI).

In attendance were permanent secretary ministry for local government, representative of the local government chairman, Executive Director NAERLS ably represented by the Deputy Director Prof Y.A.Sani, AGRA NAERLS Project Principal Investigator Prof. C.K. Daudu, Director of Agric Kauru, CBAs, farmers and community leaders.

Key takeaways emphasized the importance of collaboration between local governments and stakeholders for sustainable agricultural interventions, with plans to scale successful practices across the state and enhance monitoring and evaluation efforts. Overall, the event illustrated the potential of climate-resilient agriculture to improve farmer productivity in Kaduna State.
